This is the home of Frederick and Isabelle (Raab) Bachman. A sign on the barn states “1908,” when the barn was built. Isabelle, better known in the community as “Bell,” is standing in the front yard. She and Frederick were married on October 5, 1893, in Salem Township. Frederick’s parents, Christian and Mary Bachman, owned this land before he did. Frederick ran this farm until 1941, when it was sold to Melvin Berens. (Courtesy of Crystal Deters.)

This early-1900s photograph shows the home of Benjamin and Margaret Schuck. Benjamin’s father, Elias Schuck, came to Salem in 1863 and purchased 131 acres in section three. In the late 1800s, Benjamin acquired this land from his father. The land has been home to several generations of Schucks and is still in the family in 2009. It is located on Loew Road.
